A Doctor's Guide to Alternative Medicine: What Works, What Doesn't, and Why

PART 1  |  PART 2 >>

S y n o p s i s

In the United States, over 38 percent of people turn to Alternative Medicine for both treatment and prevention of medical issues, with more than 50 percent having explored Alternative Medicine at some point in their lives. However, due to concerns about the perceived legitimacy of these methods by conventional medical practitioners, patients often seek information from less reliable sources, such as the internet or celebrities. This abundance of misinformation raises questions about which advice to follow and what alternative treatments are actually effective.

Dr. Mel Borins addresses these important questions by drawing upon the latest scientific research and double-blind studies. His goal is to educate both patients and physicians on the efficacy of various alternative treatments, as well as how to safely incorporate them alongside conventional medicine. Dr. Borins communicates his findings in a manner accessible to the general public while providing comprehensive references to the medical community. The book covers a wide range of topics, including traditional healing methods, herbal remedies, physical therapies, psychological therapies, and natural health products. This approach is valuable for skeptics of alternative medicine seeking evidence-based information, conventional medical practitioners looking to understand the rationale behind these therapies, and the Baby Boomer generation (comprising 78 million Americans) eager to address health issues while minimizing potential risks associated with prescription drugs.
